The late leader of the party, Norskal, developed a method of communication which, much though the Pun Gods hate him for it, is cammed "Norse Code." Stop wincing. I saw that.

The way it works is as follows:

The Nathi wishing to send a message does what is referred to in the vernacular as "Dropping a pulse" or "Sounding." This is a pulse of Power which acts in a very limited way like radar would if it had been invented on this world. The Nathi who dropped the pulse can tell roughly where other Nathi are who are holding the Power, up to a range of perhaps a hundred meters, depending on how much Power is used. In everyday life this is considered rude by most Nathi, since it's like standing outside a window and shouting "Look at me!", or worse, typing in all caps on an internet BBS.

Norskal's code is basically a series of these pulses which the sender drops in a particular pattern.

It's something that one can receive while doing other things, but to easily comprehend it requires full comprehension. Likewise, to send, you can be doing other things, but to be sure you're coherent, you need to concentrate.

And as a reminder, it's omni-directional, and to either send or receive, the Nathi must be holding the Power at the time. Every time a Nathi touches the Power, his irises glow red, which makes stealth rather difficult.
