A note about the lightning-emitters all the Nathi are carrying: They are commonly called "Bolters", due to the lightning bolts they emit. They look vaguely like flintlock muskets or pistols, but they are slightly larger around, have a metal grip, and a carefully calibrated crystal on the muzzle.

For the pistol sidearms, it takes a Nathi a couple seconds to charge it, and then it may be fired at any time, so long as the Nathi continues feeding power into it once it is charged. They have an accurate range of perhaps 50-75 meters, with a max range of 100 meters. They are not very accurate, and generally do not kill with one hit, unless it is a very good shot.

The sniper variety carried by Samas and Hunot take fifteen seconds to charge, after which they may be fired like the pistols. They have an accurate range of 400-450 meters, with a 500-meter maximum range. They are extremely accurate, and a single direct hit will generally kill an unarmored target up to 250 meters away.

There have been such weapons made for human mages, but most human mages have better magical offensive options than the weapons would offer them, so they are not common at all.
