The date: May 20th, 1998. The subjects: Perl, C, and Texture mapping.
This is a portion of a conversation I thought was worth saving.
Pete: A Senior at Northwestern University
Ivan: A sys admin in Green Bay, WI
Kevin: Thats me.
Pete hey I wrote a perl script the other day to convert a ppm file into valid C code
Pete you can compile an image!
Kevin Um. Is it useful? The compiled image C code I mean...
Pete only if you want to write a perl script so that you can compile it into your programs
Kevin You're compiling an image... so you can map it?
Pete texture mapping, like in doom and stuff
Kevin Yeah, I know texture mapping.
Pete I need to get it ito the C program somehow so its a big ass array
Kevin How about reading it in from a file.
Pete reading in from a file doesn't involve perl
Kevin Does perl need to be involved?
Pete YES PERL NEEDS TO BE INVOLVED!!!!
Ivan perl needs to be involved in every facet of life.
Pete it makes my group think I am uber-cool cuz then you just say, "oh BTW, I wrote a perl script to convert ppm into valid C code" and they think thats pretty cool when its only like 10 lines max
Kevin Well, I'm impressed.
Pete huhhuh, you just replace spaces with commas. hahahahaha!
Ivan Isn't PPM in kind of a sort of text format anyway ( like x-bitmaps? )
Pete (ivan is ruining uberness)
Ivan hey, what the rest of the group doesn't know won't kill them.
Pete the rest of the group still can't get one thing to compile
Pete "can't we use windows" NO! you are a senior, you will use gcc ONCE
