Crickets and Britney Spears
I bought crickets today for the first time. It was a weird
experience. They cost something like $.73 for a dozen, which is
something like three tablespoons of crickets. That's not really very
much. It kinda bothers me, cos if we ate crickets for food, there
would be this whole cricket infrastructure already set up and we could
buy a pound of crickets for like 2 bucks. I think they gouged me on
it. I can't believe that people with chameleons or other reptiles
accept that they have to pay 73 cents for a dozen crickets.
So, I took my crickets home. They were jumping around a lot, so I put
them in the fridge. They stopped moving after a while, then I fed
them to my plants (I have about half a dozen species of insectivorous
plants). I stuffed about 10 cold comatose crickets into my pitcher
plant. It was pretty cool, cos when they started warming up, they
started moving around again. But it was too late for them. They
were already in a pool of digestive juices. They stopped moving again
after about 5 minutes. Maybe it was just the shock of the temperature
changes, but I like to think that my plants killed them.
I've also had a Britney Spears song stuck in my head all day. I don't
know what to do about it. I don't even know how it happened, because
I don't really have a conscious memory of hearing that song. Maybe it
was playing in the grocery store or something...
I think her motto is, "If I can't be a good singer, I'll be an
annoying singer. Then at least people will remember me." Well, maybe
not. Maybe she just likes the attention and the money and doesn't
care that she's not a musician at all. I can't get this song out of
my head, though. I'm considering taping a pepsi commercial just so I
can watch it over and over again. I think the pepsi jingle just might
be enough to kick that song out of my head.
"Whoops, I did it again...."
